Allocation guidelines

Important notice regarding shared apartments

Please note: In our housing facilities, it is not possible to allocate shared apartments based on gender. Due to constantly changing occupancy and limited capacity, we cannot offer shared flats that are exclusively female or exclusively male.

Regulations for the allocation of accommodation

1. Eligibility for a Housing Offer

a. Priority is given to enrolled students of specific universities within the catchment area of the housing facility. Students in the early stages of their studies are given particular consideration.

b. Academic staff, doctoral candidates, and trainee lawyers may also be considered, provided sufficient capacity is available and no enrolled students are disadvantaged.

c. If, after allocating housing to students, vacancies remain, up to 15% of the total capacity may be assigned to individuals without a university affiliation. These rental agreements are limited in duration, priced in line with the local housing market, and may be extended once for an additional semester, provided that there is still no sufficient demand from students.

2. Application and Processing Procedure

The allocation of accommodation is carried out by HEBERGER Immobilien GmbH. Applications must be submitted via the digital Bewerbungsformular application form provided here on our website.

For Landau, the key dates are 01. März and 01. September.

An application is permitted even if you have not yet received an admission offer for your degree program. Any required documentation — such as medical certificates or a disability ID — should be uploaded directly, provided it is relevant.

3. Fundamental Principles of Housing Allocation

3.1 Preferred Groups

There are certain groups of individuals who are given priority due to their specific life circumstances:

  1. Students with a severe disability
Verified through official documentation confirming a degree of disability of at least 50.
  2. Students with a child of their own
  3. International students At least one quarter of all places is reserved for this group.
  4. Students receiving BAföG funding
  5. All other applicants, for whom factors such as the distance to the place of study are taken into account
  6. Non‑students, but only if the number of applications from students is insufficient

Care is also taken to ensure that different origin groups are represented in a balanced way and that there is a fair distribution within the residential buildings.
For BAföG-related information, the principle of trust and self‑declaration applies.

4. Duration of Residence

a. In principle, residents may stay for up to six semesters in the residential complexes.

b. A longer period of residence is possible under certain conditions – for example:

  • in cases of severe disability, until the completion of studies,
  • in cases of particular social or economic circumstances, for up to four additional semesters,
  • for international students, by up to one additional semester,

during the final phase of studies, by up to two additional semesters.

5. Selection Procedure

The allocation is carried out by the responsible administration. If, after giving priority to particularly eligible applicants, there are still more interested individuals than available places, a lottery procedure is conducted to ensure fairness.
